Made In, Made For VAN is a one-day advertising hackathon presented by OpenCreate and Facebook that brings together local creators to support and empower Vancouver's most treasured small businesses.
Our goal was to challenge Vancouver's top creative talent to produce campaigns for the small businesses that make Vancouver so special. Here's an overview of the program's impact:
The mission of The ALLELES Design Studio is to provide fashion-forward and accessible prosthetic covers for amputees. Being influenced by the eyeglass industry, ALLELES uses a design approach to transform prosthetic cosmesis from a medical device into a new stream of fashion. While the prosthetic industry’s priority lies in regaining functionality, the ALLELES' priority lies in fulfilling an emotional need by regaining confidence through self-expression.
Facebook Creative Strategists, an external agency and a few creators came together to help Victoria-based design shop Alleles advertise their unique product. Alleles wanted to position itself as a fashion couturier, elevating the product above category norms while de-stigmatizing misconceptions about their customers.
While brainstorming, one of Alleles' employees (a user of the product herself) said she felt different every day and the covers gave her the opportunity to express that. So we decided to nod to the product's perfect balance of function and expression and landed with our idea: Get Changed.
We quickly agreed on a film approach, selected wardrobe changes and hit the streets of Vancouver to shoot. Short, energetic film highlights the product, but always in the context of the wearer. We always position the prosthetic as a part of an ensemble, much more like a fashion accessory than a medical device. We also captured a wide array of photography assets for the brand to use in the future.
Winter Daisy is a children's interior design studio and blog where we design fresh, modern and serene spaces for families to make memories in. On the blog, you'll find fun ideas for kids, children's decor inspiration, room reveals, how-to's, and more with a hope to inspire organized and happy homes for little ones to play, learn and grow up in.
A team of local creators teamed up with Facebook Creative Shop and Cossette to design Winter Daisy’s first Stories campaign. The goal was to tackle the challenge of building awareness for the blog, which specializes in interior design for children. The intended audience was working moms who value organization and enjoy thoughtful moments with their children. We started with the insight that moms know that having kids is both amazing and chaotic, which is why they need ideas for how to enjoy more and stress less during the moments they share with their children. From this insight the campaign was born: Kids can be chaos...their rooms don't have to be. By contrasting everyday fun, real, and messy moments with the beautiful and serene Winter Daisy designs, we created ads meant to inspire moms and kids alike.
Vancouver Island Salt Co brings you a taste of the great Canadian Pacific with its beautiful, all natural sea salt hand-harvested with care from the cold, clear waters in Oyster Bay on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. As Canada’s first sea salt harvestry, our award-winning salts are loved by chefs, home cooks, foodies and nutritionists alike. We are proud of our "merroir", a truly pristine water source, and our conscientious, sustainable production that leaves naturally occurring trace minerals intact in our salts.
Facebook partnered with local creators, Rethink, and Taxi to sprinkle a little creativity on Vancouver Island Sea Salt Company's social media. As Canada’s first sea salt harvestry, VISSC was looking for ways to bring more awareness to the award-winning salts which are loved by chefs, home cooks, foodies and nutritionists alike.
With lots of brilliant minds and little time we ideated in search of thumbstopping creative. After ideas flowed, we landed on the humble yet punchy campaign line that was as pure as the salt itself: "A taste of the Canadian Pacific in every crystal". With this new idea in hand we raced off to the source of the pure salt...the Pacific and dove right in, creating these memorable ads.
Flytographer is an online marketplace that connects travellers with local photographers in 275 cities worldwide for fun, vacation photo shoots. Our hand-picked photographers not only take stunning photos, but share insider tips on things to eat, see, and do, and take travellers to unique parts of the city they may not discover otherwise.
As a company that helps people "capture the magic of travel", Flytographer is a brand rooted in beautiful photography. So we knew Instagram was the perfect platform to showcase the brand. Enter The Greenhouse Team from the &Agency in Vancouver. Together with Facebook's Creative Shop, our team seized on the insight that many of our vacation photos wind up buried in our phones. Too many awkward selfies or low resolution images don't look good when enlarged and never end up framed on a wall. What if we could show how Flytographer gives you photos that you could never take yourself, photos that are #wallworthy? We seized on the campaign idea of #wallworthy, and the team sprinted to finish a vertical video using b-roll from an actual Flytographer shoot, complete with animated logos, titles, and even a music track. It's always amazing what can happen when creatives come together around an inspiring project.

We're incredibly grateful for their collaborative and creative spirit as we helped support our small business community.
